Brewing news Germany: German brewers brew World Cup beer

A brewery in the small town of Tann in Bavaria has taken to heart the presumption that the appropriate beer is one thing which can`t be missing if the football World Cup is happening in Germany and has brewed a special World Cup beer – “Goooal!”, Zee News communicated on May 03.

The Weideneder Brewery`s new creation, “Goooal”, has been on the market for three weeks and is proving increasingly popular already, but it was actually brewed especially for the World Cup season.

"We made a determined effort to develop the beer in a football-suitable way," the brewery`s owner Fritz Weideneder told Reuters on April 26. "We thought about the fact that the World Cup, or football tournaments in general, usually take place in summer when it is hot. So we reduced the amount of herb and the alcohol content, there is about ten percent less than in normal beers."

Contrary to the image of drunken football fans, this low-alcohol and low-hop taste is what is proving popular with the fans, according to Weideneder.

The beer costs 3.29 euros for a sixpack, but with it you get what Weideneder describes as the world`s biggest beer-mat - so that you have enough room to stack up the beers while you watch the match and shout "Goooal!".

"It was quite a complicated search for a name, but since the issue with the Pope beer we are quite skilled in this," Weideneder said. "You can search to death though, to try and find an idea connected with football. As a coincidence, “Goooal” was free and patents office were able to give us the rights to it."

And now all the fans visiting Germany have the right to it too. So they can enjoy a “Goooal!” whether their national team is scoring any or not.
